Mirror Mirror On The Wall
It was my last child’s tenth birthday recently and her only request was to have a princess themed afternoon matinee for her girlfriends. The movie she picked was “Princess Diaries” This went a long way to confirm my unresearched theory that inside every woman, nay every girl is a desire to be a princess and a diva.
I guess the fairy tales we all read as little girls steered our fantasies in this direction. There always was a princess involved and of course a gallant knight in shining armour that always came to the rescue and of course the stories were always completed with the famous sentence “…and they lived happily ever after.
One of my favorite fairy tales is that of a wicked queen who had a magic mirror before which she often stood to inquire thus “mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of all?” Forget that she was wicked. The truth is that we all stand in front of one mirror or the other, waiting to get an affirmation that we are fair, if not the fairest and awaiting the nudging within that says “okay you are good to go.”
The guys in our lives often wonder why we go through the trouble of so many health and beauty procedures: the jogging or aerobics, the retouching of hair and sitting under the drier’s intense heat, fixing of extensions, weaving of braids, the manicures and pedicures, nail fixing, facials, eyebrow waxing, shaving…..the list is endless! I must confess that even I can’t meet up. I cannot however deny that these touch ups are necessary for every discerning wife. You ignore them, at least the basics to your peril.
Personal grooming for every woman is a must. I shudder when I think of the fact that some women hiding under the shroud of religious or sectarian persuasions shun the use of basics such as deodorants and perfumes. I feel sorry for the men in their lives and the unfortunate innocent people in their scopes of influence who are forced to relate with them daily and who must be constantly assaulted with the foul consequences of their ignorance and naivety.
Personal grooming is more than well set hair and facial make over. It is more than the using of expensive perfumes or wearing of costly apparels. It starts from the core of the hidden parts, both visible and invisible. We shall start off with the visible which includes the following:
- The care of your mouth and the way you brush your teeth. You may not know, but there is a technique to brushing. This will form the subject of a later write up I promise. The care of the mouth includes the daily cleaning of the tongue. Not all cases of mouth odour is as a result of a medical condition. Accumulated dirt on the tongue can also be the cause. The periodic scaling and polishing of the teeth will also go a long way in ensuring dental health.
- The cleaning of the ears, both internal and external. The careful washing of the back of the ears, the ear lobes……How nauseating it is to notice caked dirt in the ears of a lady or even wax being forced to peep out of the ear begging profusely to be removed.
- The arm pits are areas which though seemingly hidden, yet are strongholds from which arsenals that can knock off your innocent contacts with gaseous matters ooze out. That is the way nature designed the arm pits to be. It appears to me that the bushier the armpits, the more potent the offensive smell. No lady worth that title should ever be caught with grown hair under the armpits and even when regularly shaved, deodorants by way of roll on and sprays are meant to be daily used.
- The most private of our private parts is the crotch area that houses the vulva and the vagina. While douching is often termed unnecessary, daily washing is non negotiable. Because of the particular sensitivity of this part of a woman’s anatomy, daily airing is also key! Panties should therefore be outlawed from dusk to dawn! (Lol) By this I mean that panties/underwear should not be worn to bed. Apart from preventing the much needed air from getting to this secluded part, it also disturbs other things and if you don’t believe me, you may please ask the men (lol). I also recommend regular shaving of the pubic hair. Trust me, hair extensions are not needed down there! Your panties are recommended to be cotton and should be changed daily. Don’t be deceived dear girlfriend, those around you know when you wear your undies multiple times in a row or when you put on a used and unwashed one. I know the tell tale smell even if a 100 ml of perfume was used in an attempt to conceal it.
There is so much to share on personal grooming, but we just can’t just cover all aspects of it at once. This is just an introduction. I promise you to always keep it real. Our discussions will be blunt and frank but we are permitted to blush all we want (lol). Just make sure you make the needed adjustments and watch your health, looks and romantic relationships take a leap and guess what the icing on the cake is? Your confidence and self esteem is guaranteed to go in the same direction.

True talk straight to the point. Some wear weaves n braids for so long n forget to wash or remove promptly. Or use sanitary towels a whole day forget to change as often as needed or don’t wipe after urinating.
well done sis! Sure way to go!!!
